Yoga for BJJ Training: Complete Level 2 Curriculum (9-Min Homework)

We want you to be able to have that sensation of this is a really good class and this is a great class and this is an amazing class. And of course in contrast with these few classes that are great, it's all that other garbage that I'm not gonna waste my time doing. This is the type of yoga we want to turn you into. So that was number one.

Do the curriculum and do each video 10 to 20 times or more. Number two, write down questions. Two types of questions. Questions based on your teaching experience when you have been teaching in your gym or on zoom or in privates.

Whatever you have been teaching, write down the questions when you have them. Not six weeks later when you can't really remember. Write down questions. Make a habit of having google docs or whatever on your phone.

As soon as you have a good question, write it down and slowly over time build up a list of questions based on your teaching experience and your self-practice. So when you practice yourself and look, I feel like these two cues, they are contradictory. The more I do this, the less I do that and the more I do this, that doesn't make sense. I'm gonna write it down and so that I like the best way to be prepared for the level two meetup is to have a lot of questions.

Nuanced questions that have developed over time and if you find answers for those questions, don't delete the questions you had. Write your suggested answers after your questions so that we can discuss the different answers because this is not black and white. It's not yes or no. It's okay but with this body type this will make more sense.

With another body type this is much better. So this is the kind of discussions we want to have and we can only have these beautiful nuanced discussions when you are well prepared and have those questions written down. We will even ask you to when you book your ticket to come to the level two, when you have purchased the ticket, we want you to also send us the questions you have to that point. So all your questions should be done when you're planning to do the level two so that we can go through your questions and articulate great answers for you so that we don't waste any time arguing at the training.

We should have not been done that in advance. Number three homework. Film yourself, mute, just put on a class, one of the classes, film yourself doing the class and then press mute and watch yourself for a full 75 or 60 minute class. Just sit there and watch yourself doing yoga.

It will be excruciating. It will be awkward. It will be hard. It will be tough.

You want to cringe but it's education. You are watching yourself as if you are a student. Imagine you're teaching a student and you're just observing them for 60 to 75 minutes. Watch for the flaws.

Watch for all the blind spots and the times you blink to not see what you're doing. You will see it when you see yourself. This is the main tool of development for Jiu Jitsu. Film yourself, sign up for a competition, do the competition, watch your video.

People hate it. Even world champions don't want to do it. They don't want to see their own fights. These people exist.

They just are so cringe worthy that they don't want to see it but they miss out on the best teaching and learning experience there is. So one of the classes, film yourself and don't just practice a hundred times before you film yourself. Only you are going to see this video so you don't have to perfect it. Film yourself, watch yourself doing the full video.

Maybe write down your comments to yourself or just your you know how your mind is working when you're watching yourself and we will have a laugh when we share with each other what we were thinking when we were watching ourselves. Very very good teaching experience. Number four, teach a class, a live class on zoom or live in your gym. Record it not with video but just with audio.

Put the phone on you so that you can hear yourself clearly and then take your class from voice only. So you are taking your own class, you're listening to your own instructions. You know the class by heart but still pretend that you don't know what's coming. Just try to figure out what you're saying and several things will be will be you know coming up from doing this and I want you to write everything down and bring it back because this is also a great learning experience.

Looking at yourself as if you were your own student and taking your own class as if you are your own teacher takes you out of your narrow little mind and you know sees yourself from the outside. Very very important to stay humble and many other things. Okay so the next thing is some other things. Just quick repeat.

One, do the curriculum and do each video 10 to 20 times. Write down questions when they come up based on your own experience and self-practice. Film yourself and watch the class silent. Give a class and take your own class from audio.

Another couple of things, there will be no jiu-jitsu belt requirements for level two. When you have completed level one you are automatically eligible to do level two and there is no pass or fail. It's not like you're going to travel all the way to where we are and we're going to say you know you suck. You can't be a yoga for me instructor at all.

We don't have the right to do that. Our right is to make sure that you are grounded in reality enough to realize your limitations because you might be very talentless at teaching. You might be not one of the best teachers in the world but we will do our best to make you realize your own flaws and improve on them. Most likely you are already an average or better instructor for yoga or jiu-jitsu because you did the level one.

That's our hope and our faith lies in that that's true. So don't worry about it. You will not fail. We will not cut your head off and we will not have everybody point at you and laugh.

So no fear there. We will help you get what you need in order to be a level two instructor. So do the homework and let's have a lot of fun when we meet up together. It will be so nice.
