Being great at grappling means no space, tight elbows, protecting your neck, pulling your knees up towards your chest and being super tight basically. That means being a great jiu jitsu athlete. But as soon as you want to get up from the floor and be a human being again, this position with maximum tension isn't really that great for our body. So we need to stretch out the front and strengthen the back because we don't do any of that in jiu jitsu.
So this whole class that we're doing is a countering jiu jitsu class. We're not doing what we do a lot of in jiu jitsu, we're doing the complete opposite. And that takes a little mind shift to think that what are we doing a lot of in jiu jitsu that we need to compensate for by doing something else, that's backbends. But this whole 15 minute class that you're doing is meant to counter all the negative effects of jiu jitsu, making your back stronger and your hip flexors and your chest more open.
And you're going to feel a massive difference when you do this class consistently when you are hunched up. Because it's not only jiu jitsu, it's also when we're driving cars and working where our hip flexors are short and our back is rounded. So jiu jitsu is not helping us living a better life. You need to do this type of class in order to do that.
Enjoy the class.
