Previously titled: Intro to The Acro Program
Hi guys and welcome to the Yoga for BJ acro program. My name is Sebastian and I'm going to do most of the talking throughout these videos. Stine is going to remind me of things that I am bound to forget. But acro yoga is very unique in that it's so much fun if you let it be fun.
But remember you are two people and probably the hardest person in the world to do this with is your partner. Because there is always, you know, we like to throw things back and forward in the relationship. So this is as much of a practice as it is a test of your relationship. So try to always take the route of having fun and smiling and laughing at yourself.
Instead of trying to make this into some kind of competition where you try to excel as fast as possible. Because most of the time you are probably the one doing something that you're not aware of that is fucking up the whole situation. So always laugh at yourself and try to have fun at each step of the progress. A few precautions.
First things first, remove all sharp objects around you. So if you have a Buddha with a spiky head, throw him out of there. You don't want to land on the hard stuff or spiky stuff. So that's number one.
Number two is you can have soft padding around you. You can put mattresses around because it's not a matter of if you fall. You are going to fall. It's when you fall.
And when you fall, you want to land softly and to have some padding around when you're newbies is probably a very good idea. If you have Jiu Jitsu mats at home, perfect. That's going to make things even easier. If not, just find a mat that has a little bit of cushion and remove all tables and all pets out of the way.
What else? Oh, yeah. I know that for those of you who are new to Yoga for BJ, the notorious inflexible hamstrings can be a big problem when you do Acro the first time, especially if you try to lay down straight with your legs straight up the air like this, your hamstrings are going to complain a lot. So if you have like this is a perfect yoga buster, you don't need this one, but have something that you can put under your buttocks.
So if I lay down on the side like this, I can lift up my butt and place two pillows under my hips to lift my lower back off the floor. It's going to make it easier because when I straight my legs, maybe they just go here. But when I put something under my hips, the legs go higher because one of the basics in Acro is I want to place the flyer center of gravity above my hips to make things easier. And this really helps me from having to just work my core intensely like this.
So a pillow might come in handy. Other than that, have fun, look at each other and smile and laugh because this is just play. There is no competitions in Acro. So just try to do this and have fun.
All right. See you in the next video.
